Professions Susceptible To Workplace Injury
There are a number of professions that come with a higher risk of injury. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have worked hard with employers to reduce the amount of accidents that happen in the workplace but despite progress being made there are still those professions that outweigh the rest in terms of numbers of accidents. In no particular order:
Farming:
- Accidents involving farm vehicles
- Falls from farm buildings
- Accidents in slurry pits and silos
- Dangerous livestock
- Exposure to dangerous chemicals and substances
Construction:
- Falling from scaffold or a roof
- Having objects fall on them from a height
- Being struck by a work vehicle
- Dangerous equipment
Driving:
- Dangerous weather conditions
- Reckless drivers
- Distracted drivers
- Fatigued drivers
Manufacturing:
- Falling objects
- Improper lifting/over exertion
- Slips, trips and falls
- Accidents involving vehicles either in the warehouse or delivering to the warehouse
Healthcare:
- Manual handling back injury (patient handling and lifting heavy loads)
- Slips, trips and falls
- Needlestick injury
- Violent attacks
It falls to your employer whatever industry you work in to ensure your workplace is safe and that every precaution is taken, in short they must uphold their duty of care to their employees. In most cases employers will do all they can. If you have suffered an injury at work that you believe was not your fault, you are entitled to make a compensation claim.
